A CHEEKY pooch sparked a rescue operation after it chased a mouse through a gap in a pile of rubble – and got stuck.

The terrier, called Mr Scribbles, had only been let outside for a few seconds before it spotted the rodent scurrying across the garden and went after it.

But the dog ended up wedging himself under five tonnes of concrete slabs in the front garden.

When Mr Scribbles didn’t emerge and started whining, his owners Jamie Robinson and Beth Douglas peered into the rubble and saw a little black nose.

They tried to pull him out but after no luck dialled 999. Five firefighters quickly attended the detached house in West Moors.

They also struggled to reach Mr Scribbles and ended up digging a three-feet-long trench which the black dog was able to use to crawl free.

Luckily, the Patterdale and Jack Russell-cross terrier suffered no injuries in his struggle under the 5ft pile of debris.

Jamie, 33, a hospital X-ray engineer, said: “We popped outside and Mr Scribbles started chasing a mouse, his favourite hobby.

“He must have followed it under the pile of rubble, because we suddenly heard him squeaking and spotted him straight away.

“He was wedged in the pile, which was there because we are doing our driveway.

“We tried for about 15 minutes to get him out but we couldn’t as it might have been risky to move any of the slabs.

“I just thought ‘Oh God, we need to get the fire brigade out, how embarrassing’ so we called them and they were here within two minutes.

“They put up a couple of supports to make sure it was all stable and then dug a trench.

“They were very professional and quick and although whining for a while, Mr Scribbles was soon able to crawl out.

“Even though we were outside when it happened we watch him and our other dog, Toby, whenever they go in the garden now.

“He has even sniffed around it since so I have to keep a watchful eye just in case he goes after a mouse again.”
