WEDDING bells rang out on a blustery Bournemouth beach yesterday morning as the first seaside wedding took place.
The sandy ceremony was broadcast live to millions of viewers after the bride and groom won the beach hut wedding in a competition run by ITV’s Daybreak show.
Lucky couple Kate Smith and Fraser Seed tied the knot in front of their families and friends as well as the television cameras before taking off to a gourmet reception at the Highcliff Marriott Hotel.
And fortunately the weather held out just in time for Kate to get from the cliff lift near Bournemouth Pier to the marquee on the beach, with a few minutes spent touching up her makeup and hair before she walked down the aisle.
Residents had come to see the Lancashire couple wed with many braving the elements to catch a glimpse of her simple yet stunning white gown.
Jo Mursell and friend Carol-Anne McNichol from Bournemouth had popped down to see the wedding before work.
“We’ve been following it on television and just wanted to see her dress. She looks beautiful”, said Jo.
“It’s lovely that it’s at Bournemouth beach and we can just pop down and have a look,” added Carol-Anne.
Talented baker Hayley Jones from Verwood, who created the couple’s stunning four-tier cake, was also there to witness the nuptials.
“It’s been a challenge but just so pleased to be a part of their day. They’re such a lovely couple.
“I couldn’t sleep last night, I’m just so happy it’s all gone well.”
After signing the register, canapés were passed around while the couple had photos taken.
Fraser said: “It’s all been perfect to be honest – better than we could have hoped for.
“The weather has behaved, it’s just been fantastic.
“Everyone has worked so hard.
“It’s just been perfect.”
