A POOLE singer has penned two new verses of the national anthem to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee.

Musician Roger Brooks composed the two new verses, which will be performed for the first time on Wednesday May 2 in Bournemouth by the 80-strong Voice community choir.

Voice community choir, who will be dressed in red, white and blue, was formed two years ago by a small group of friends and has continued to grow as choral singing rises in popularity.

Roger, a former radio station manager, said: “The Queen has done a marvellous job for this country.

“I thought it was time to re-energise the national anthem to reflect this and we wanted to express our appreciation and loyalty in the way we know best – by singing it out loud and clear.”

God Save the King was originally composed by Thomas Augustine Arne and first sung in 1745.

There have been several variations since that time, but as far as Roger knows his is the only one who has written for the jubilee.

Roger has submitted the special lyrics to Buckingham Palace and received a letter of thanks.
