SHOULD Bournemouth Council move its operation onto council-owned land in Littledown and convert the current town hall into a hotel?
The town’s biggest landlord Dave Wells thinks so and wants to spark up a debate about the idea. He’s sure to get a number of backers.
After all, the town hall was once a hotel – the Mont Dore – and would be a prize asset to the town’s hospitality scene.
There will be others who welcome a “fit-for-purpose” modern town hall, which could save money in the long term. While there will undoubtedly be some who feel the council could work in more spartan surroundings during this period of austerity.
Council leader John Beesley said he would be interested to see the costings involved, but added there would be “significant planning issues to overcome”.
