THE woman at the forefront of the campaign to secure NHS dentistry in Swanage will be among the new temporary surgery’s first customers.
Mum-of-two Mandy Mason galvanised the community into action earlier this year after the only NHS dentist in town announced it was going private.
Following local uproar, health chiefs put out a contract to tender in a bid to land another NHS dentist for the historic seaside town.
This work is ongoing, but to plug the gap NHS Dorset has announced a new interim mobile service for residents.
Mrs Mason, 43, of Aigburth Road, Swanage, told the Daily Echo: “When I saw the mobile dentist outside the Methodist Church it put a smile on my face.
“And I may be one of the first patients as I’ve broken a tooth on some pork crackling and need to get it fixed.”
The mobile dentist unit opens on May 1, with appointments available daily, 9am to 1pm and 2pm to 5.30pm.
