High water levels on the River Stour could lead to flooding at Wimborne and Gillingham, the Environment Agency says.
The two towns were placed on flood alert this morning.
Flooding is not expected to affect properties, an Environment Agency spokesman said.
The River's flood plain is being used but it has not burst its banks, a spokesman for Dorset County Council said.
Members of the council's flood risk management are on scene monitoring the situation, but flooding is not expected to affect highways or traffic.
