THE first ever Poole Town Race is shaping up to be a landmark in the town’s sporting calendar.
It caters for athletes, visitors and anyone who wants to have a go, seeing parts of Poole you may never have seen before.
Urban Orienteering is a fast growing sport and the Poole Town Race takes place on Saturday May 26, from Falkland Square. People can turn up any time between 2.30pm and 5pm and have a go.
The challenge is to navigate around a course, using a special map, stopping off at a number of electronic checkpoints.
Times are recorded around the different courses, which range from 2km to 5km.
Entry costs £5 per person/ group with at least £3 going to the Rotary Club of Poole Bay.
“The Poole Town Race was a perfect project for us, showcasing Poole, involving lots of people, and raising funds for our charities,” said Don Nutt, club president.
Gavin Clegg, chairman of Wessex Orienteering Club said: “We are always keen to introduce new people to orienteering and the Poole Town Race is a great way to give it a try.”
