BOURNEMOUTH council has refused to release details of where the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee street parties will be held for fear they will be ‘gatecrashed’.
Requests for dates and locations of parties to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II’s 60 years on the throne were met by Poole Borough Council, Dorset County Council and Christchurch Borough Council.
But Bournemouth Borough refused the Daily Echo’s information request citing incidents of ‘gratecrashing’ at street parties elsewhere in the country as the reason.
The authority has currently approved nine street parties to be held over the Jubilee weekend of June 2 to 5 and say closures take 28 days to approve.
All Bournemouth council would say is the rough locations of the street parties such as "off Charminster Road in Winton" which links to around 40 roads in its entirety.
Explaining their decision not to release the specific locations of the street parties, Mark Smith, director of tourism, said: “We are not giving out local Jubilee street party locations in the interests of and due to the wishes of those who have organised these events.
“We are not trying to discourage anyone from getting in the Jubilee spirit and enjoying the celebrations; we are following the wishes of our local residents in helping them organise their events.
“These events are private street parties and we cannot give out the locations without the organisers consent. There have been national cases of these types of events being disrupted when locations have been revealed and we want to avoid this to ensure that everyone enjoys their celebrations.
You can see where all the other Dorset street parties are being held by visiting our online map in our Diamond Jubilee section. Or if you are having a street party in Bournemouth you can tell us by filling in the online form.
