PATIENTS attending Lewis-Manning Hospice in Poole came up trumps when they decorated a costume for a performance of The Wiz.

The hospice’s creative artist Jeanie Palfrey was asked to make a dress for the character Wicked Witch Eveline in the production, by local dance group Pure Funk.

“We have a very talented group of people who attend our art workshops and I thought that this particular dress would be a wonderful project for them to focus on,” she said.

“Our patients created decorations out of beads, material and any other bits and pieces we could find to make the dress.”

The adaptation of the original Diana Ross and Michael Jackson version of the Wizard of Oz will be on for one night only, at the Lighthouse on August 11.

But Pure Funk will be giving the public a preview at Bournemouth Square on July 21 and Poole Dolphin Centre on July 29.

The dress will be available for hire after the performance, with half the takings donated to the hospice.

Amy Beveridge, artistic director at Pure Funk, a dance company for five to 30-year-olds said: “The patients at the hospice have done such an amazing job and we’re really grateful to them.

“We don’t usually use costumes for our performances so this will be a great experience for our dancers to really dress up and get into character.”
