A FORMER Royal Marine in his 60s is set to walk 800 miles from Scotland to Poole.
Taff Davies, who ended his 25 year career in Poole, will set off from Arbroath, Scotland, in May and hopes to reach the south coast on July 12.
Mr Davies, who lived in Poole until 2005, is performing the challenge in memory of his late wife Audrey and in aid of Breast Cancer Care, the Special Boat Service Association and the Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund.
Mr Davies said: “Someone suggested I should walk from Arbroath to Poole, which I laughed at as I was approaching my 60th birthday.
“But after six months of thinking about it and looking back at the good life the Corps had given us both, I thought about the amount of injuries that today’s Marines have to live with.
“I knew then that I had to give it a try and raise money towards making their lives a bit easier.”
