TOP speedway star Darcy Ward sexually assaulted a teenage girl who was visiting Dorset to watch Poole Pirates, a court heard.
The 20-year-old Pirates rider was one of three males involved in an incident filmed on a mobile phone in a hotel room which left a 17-year-old speedway fan in shock and with sexual injuries, Bournemouth Crown Court was told.
Australian-born Ward, twice world under-21 champion and three-times Australian under-21 champion, faces one charge of sexual assault following an incident at the Premier Inn in Holes Bay Road, Poole on August 17 2011.
A 17-year-old male, who cannot be named for legal reasons, faces one charge of rape and three of sexual assault.
A third man said to be at the scene at the time of the alleged crimes was not charged with any offences.
Ward and the youth deny all the charges against them.
A jury of five men and seven women heard the alleged victim and a friend travelled to Poole from the Midlands and spent some time drinking in their hotel room before going to the speedway and meeting up with the three males.
Prosecuting, Kerry Maylin said the group of five planned to go to a pub but instead went back to the girls’ room at the Premier Inn.
She told how the 17-year-old male carried out sexual assaults while the alleged victim’s friend was outside having a cigarette with Ward, who has an address in Poole Road, Sturminster Newton.
And the jury also heard how all three males went into the room with the girl while her friend stayed outside in the corridor.
“What happened in that room that night was a number of sexual assaults on her,” said Ms Maylin.
“The prosecution say she had consumed a vast amount of alcohol that evening. The males were laughing.”
Ms Maylin said all three males were seen to run out of the hotel after the alleged attacks.
Jurors were shown two videos which the prosecution said have been recovered from the 17-year-old male’s phone since the incident. The prosecution said they showed the alleged victim being dragged by her legs on to a bed and assaulted.
And jurors heard that when questioned about one alleged assault by police, the 17-year-old male said: “She didn’t really want to do it so I stopped.”
And the court also heard when asked if he had asked the girl if he could carry out a sex act, he replied: “I didn’t really.”
The trial continues.
