THE rain washed out some parts of Blandford’s biggest annual event but thousands of people still enjoyed the events and a sunny afternoon.
The Georgian Fayre held on Bank Holiday Monday attracts up to 25,000 people, although attendance figures for this year have not yet been worked out.
Rachael Harding, from the Fayre organising team, said: “The weather was not too good to start but once the sun came out it was lovely.
“Unfortunately we lost the use of the Crown Meadows due to flooding, which is usually used for the Falconry and gun dogs, and they were unable to attend.
“Remaining entertainers performed in Sheep Market Hill. The Ulfhedinn Vikings and Poole Buccaneers from Poole Re-enactment Society and Wimborne Militia did a sterling job.
“We had The Ring of Eight historical dance group, the Gurkha cultural show, Bellyfusion Bellydancers, Stour Valley Band and Juggins the Clown amongst others entertaining in the Market Place.”
The event, now in its 20th year, is the largest of its kind in the south of England. The event has raised almost £1 million for community initiatives. This year’s nominated charity was the Blandford Opportunity Group. Blandford brewery Hall and Woodhouse has continued as the main sponsor.
