It's been ages since my last blog and this is going to be my last blog for a while! I'm taking a bit of a break as I'm struggling to find the time to write at the moment. I have really enjoyed having the opportunity to write this blog over the last 3 years so I do want to thank the Echo, in particular Sam and Sarah, for allowing me to hijack a corner of their website.

This is an exciting time for cycling in the UK; the Olympics will hopefully see us come away with some medals, we have World Champions and the Government is trying hard to encourage more people out of their cars and on to two wheels.

I have learnt a few things through writing this blog and so I want to leave you with a few points that I think are worth making:

• Cycling is good for everyone so let's encourage more people to get on two wheels. It's cuts down on pollution, congestion and obesity. It also costs a lot less than driving and is much more fun! In a lot of cases it's also faster than driving!

• Most people are actually quite nice and do show respect for their fellow humans but there are always a few who like to complain and moan. No matter how hard you try you will never be able to show some people that their views are being tainted by some irrational prejudice.

• Cyclists need to know their rights, but they also need to be sensible and ride safely. Sometimes it's better to stay safe than it is to be right!

• There are some bad and irresponsible cyclists out there, but just like bad drivers they are in the minority. Don't tar everyone with the same brush!

• Motorists need to be aware of the Highway Code and their responsibilities towards vulnerable road users. People often say that a car is a lethal weapon and this can be very true in the wrong hands, even in responsible hands it only takes a momentary lapse of concentration to potentially cause a tragedy.

Right, I'm off! See you on your bikes, have fun!
