A TEENAGER can’t remember being sexually assaulted in a hotel room by speedway star Darcy Ward during a visit to Dorset to watch Poole Pirates, a court heard yesterday.
The 20-year-old Pirates’ rider from Poole Road, Sturminster Marshall, was one of three males involved in an alleged incident, filmed on a mobile phone, which left a speedway fan suffering from sexual injuries, jurors at Bournemouth Crown were told.
Australian-born Ward, twice world under-21 speedway champion and three-times Australian under-21 champion, denies one charge of sexual assault at the Premier Inn on Holes Bay Road, Poole, on August 17 last year.
A 17-year-old male, who cannot be named for legal reasons, denies rape and three sexual assault charges.
A third man, alleged to have been at the scene at the time, was not charged with any offence.
During a pre-recorded interview, the alleged 17-year-old victim, from the Midlands, said: “It’s all just a blur; I literally can’t remember anything.
“I keep trying to get my head round it; trying to retrace my steps but I can’t.”
She told a police officer how she had drunk cider in the hotel room before having a large glass of vodka and coke at the speedway meeting.
The teenager and her female friend had planned to go to a pub but ended up back at their hotel with the three males at about 10pm.
The alleged victim said she had booked the hotel room for her and her friend and paid for the accommodation, adding: “There was no plan of sharing a bedroom.”
When a police officer asked: “Did you have a drink in the bedroom?” the teenager replied: “I don’t know.”
She broke down after telling the officer she couldn’t remember how her clothes had been removed in the room.
When asked if she drank a lot of alcohol, the alleged victim replied: “We were just having a laugh really.”
The case continues.
