A CHRISTCHURCH teenager chosen to sing on an Olympic single takes part in a star-studded event at the Royal Albert Hall tonight.

Coral Norton, 17, was originally picked from thousands of young singers across the country to be part of the official Olympic youth choir set to perform at various events in the run-up to this summer’s Games.

The youngster who is part of Christchurch’s Funky Little Choir was chosen, along with fellow Funky choristers Dan White and Sam Gibbins last year.

A student at Highcliffe School, Coral appeared in the Highcliffe Charity Players production of Red Riding Hood at the Regent Centre in January but now will take her place on a much grander stage.

Coral will perform the Team GB Official Olympic Song, Queen’s One Vision, along with 29 other youngsters from the youth choir at the gala celebration, Our Greatest Team Rises, in London tonight.

Tenor Alfie Boe and Girls Aloud member Kimberley Walsh also sing on the track.

The gala celebration will also welcome special guests the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge as well as celebrities including Gary Barlow and comedian John Bishop and sports legends Sir Steve Redgrave and Dame Kelly Holmes.

Coral said: “I’m so excited. I think everyone is a bit jealous because Kate and Wills are going to be there.

“It’s been a lot of hard work but I never expected to be doing anything like this.

“When we auditioned I didn’t realise what it was for. But I’m really pleased to be representing the area I live. It’s an honour.”

The event comes just one day after the Olympic flame was lit in Olympia, Greece, and hopes to serve as a call to the nation to show their support for Team GB.
