A CAFE that helps people with learning difficulties is appealing for help find a bigger home.

Crumbs in Boscombe has trained hundreds of people but needs to centralise to save money and secure its future.

“We haven’t got enough space,” said founder Anne Gardner.

“We need to grow our business to be stable and sustainable.”

Crumbs currently has a Cafe at 522 Christchurch Road and a bakery in Southbourne Road.

There are around 30 trainees at a time – they have learning difficulties, mental health issues, head injuries, or are recovering from addiction.

Anne said: “It is not just about employment but about people gaining confidence and independence.”

Moving into one unit would also save paying twice for heating, insurance and other bills.

The charity relies on council contracts, donations, grants and paying customers.

Development manager Lorraine Dabner said: “Trust money makes up a lot of our funding, but that’s getting harder and harder to secure.”

Anne said the ideal location would be a 1,500 square foot unit over two floors available at a discount. She said: “We are not in an ideal location at the moment. We have little storage space and footfall has dropped off since Argos closed.”

Crumbs, which was founded in 1997, still has two years left on its Christchurch Road lease.
