A SUCCESSFUL retailer is interested in potentially moving into the closed former TJ Hughes unit at Boscombe’s Sovereign Centre.

The closure of the two-tier unit last August with the loss of around 50 jobs was a major blow to the area.

Tim Clark, the centre’s letting agent, told the May meeting of Boscombe Business Forum that the potential operator would have up to 180 concessions.

“It’s almost like an old fashioned department store,” he said.

“It’s a step up from an indoor market.”

He said the operator had “successful, similar” stores in Fulham and Bermondsey in London.

Mr Clark stressed that because the Sovereign Centre does not own the whole TJ Hughes unit any deal would take longer to resolve than normal.
