PLANS for the memorial to tragic Red Arrows pilot Jon Egging have been unveiled.
The tribute – based on an idea by two pupils from Kinson Primary School – has been designed by artist Tim Ward.
It has been submitted for planning consent and should be placed on the clifftop at East Overcliff Drive in time for this year’s air festival.
Flt Lt Egging – Red 4 – died at last year’s event when his aircraft came down in fields at Throop after the Saturday display.
Jon’s widow Emma and his mum Dawn chose the winning design.
They also picked Mr Ward to interpret the children’s efforts as they felt certain Jon would have appreciated his style.
Emma said: “I am thrilled with the plans and drawings and love the way the finished design reflects the children’s original idea.
“Obviously we have everything crossed that planning approval will be granted so that Tim can begin to manufacture it.”
Bournemouth Mayor, Cllr Chris Rochester, said he was delighted that plans for the lasting tribute to Flt Lt Egging had taken another step forward.
“It will be a permanent dedicated location for local residents and visitors to pay their respects to him and reconfirm the town’s high regard for the Red Arrows,” he added.
“I am particularly pleased that Emma and Dawn have been so closely involved every step of the way.”
This year’s festival will see the first Red Ball, to be held on Friday August 31, to raise money for the Jon Egging Trust.
