A CHARITY which works for young people with disabilities and their families has secured a big lottery grant.

Diverse Abilities Plus Ltd was won £280,358 from the Big Lottery Fund’s Reaching Communities programme for its work offering holiday play opportunities and respite care in rural Dorset.

The charity aims to improve the emotional wellbeing of young people with disabilities and their families and reduce the likelihood of family breakdown and mental health problems.

It already operates in parts of East Dorset, Bournemouth and Poole and will expand its services into rural parts of the county.

Project manager Margaret Rus-tici said: “Our project is important to families as they are able to join in activities as a whole family.”
