The AFC Business Cycle Team is planning to use pedal power this summer to boost the coffers of a worthy cause.
Made up of local businesses, the team raised more than £8,000 for the Macmillan Dorset Bike Ride in 2011 and now have their sights set on breaking the £10,000 barrier.
Since the ride was launched in 1989 it has raised £1m; a milestone the charity is hoping to pass on Sunday, July 1.
More than 4,000 people are diagnosed with cancer in Dorset each year and the Daily Echo backed bike ride raises essential funds to help Macmillan provide practical, medical, emotional and financial support to those living with the condition.
Volunteer ride organiser Peter Smith-Nicholls said: “The AFC Business Cycle Team made an amazing contribution to last year’s bike ride which helped us reach our £100,000 target in Macmillan’s centenary.”
AFC Bournemouth commercial director Rob Mitchell said: “It’s a fantastic cause and I’m confident that we can do even better this time round.
“We are really proud to be able to support Mac-millan and all the vital work that they do. We are determined to raise as much as we can.”
He thanked The Club in Meyrick Park where business team members can prepare for the ride by taking part in free spinning classes and weekend meets with the rest of the group.
Cyclists participating in this year’s Macmillan Dorset Bike Ride, which starts at Corfe Mullen recreation ground, can choose distances of between 10 and 100 miles, depending on their fitness levels.
