DISUSED poultry sheds were destroyed after a blaze in Verwood in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
A retained crew from Verwood were called to reports of smoke near to Kings Lane, Horton Road just after 12.20am.
Firefighters reported seeing a large column of smoke in the distance and upon further investigation discovered the large poultry shed fire.
Assistance was requested from Cranborne and Ferndown and a water carrier from Poole was also mobilised.
The sheds, which measured 7m x 20m had asbestos roofing and were extinguished using two hose reel jets and various main jets.
Crews worked to protect neighbouring buildings, one of which contained cylinders while two vehicles were used for water shuttling purpose to protect a second building using a water curtain.
A specialised fire service hazard officer also attended to offer advice on the asbestos.
A representative from Southern Electric Board was also on scene to isolate power supplies.
Crews are expected to return this morning to inspect the scene.
