THERE may have been frost on the ground in some places this morning but to get you in summer mood, here’s a preview of some the movies that will be sizzling at the cinema over the next months.

Prometheus

Released: June 1 (as if we needed to tell you that!) in 2D, 3D, Imax and Imax 3D (we’ll skip over the fact we no longer have an Imax in Bournemouth)

Stars: Charlize Theron, Guy Pearce, Noomi Repace, Idris Elba and Michael Fassbender

The buzz: The film, which is set in the same universe as Alien, centres around the crew of the Prometheus spaceship who are led to a distant world as they seek to find the origins of mankind.

Prometheus was originally due to serve as a prequel to Ridley Scott’s Alien but it is a separate story which precedes the events of the 1979 classic but is not directly connected to the franchise.

Channel 4 screened the trailer during an ad-break for Homeland and two viral clips have shown us a glimpse of Michael Fassbender’s android character David and of Guy Pearce as corporate tycoon Peter Weyland.

Fact: The film has received a 15 certificate from the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) with no cuts having to be made.

The Amazing Spider-Man

Released: July 3 in 2D, 3D and Imax 3D

Stars: Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Martin Sheen, Sally Field

The buzz: Brit-actor Andrew Garfield makes his first appearance as the web-slinging Marvel Comics hero in the reboot of the franchise.

A four-minute preview was recently aired stateside during America’s Got Talent - see below.

A sequel is already being planned for release in 2014.

Fact: Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone are dating each other off-screen as well as on

The Dark Knight Rises

Released: July 20

Stars: Quite a few! Christian Bale, Gary Oldman, Michael Caine, Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, Marion Cotillard, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Morgan Freeman

The buzz: Director Christopher Nolan has gone from strength to strength since he rebooted the Batman franchise back in 2005, transforming the caped crusader from cheesy superhero we’d seen in the previous films into a darker vigilante.

The Dark Knight was a box office smash back in 2008 and expectations are even higher for the third instalment in Nolan’s movie series with the trailer breaking a record last year when it was downloaded over 12.5 million times on iTunes.

Brave

Released: August 17 in 2D and 3D

Stars: OK, it’s an computer animation so you won’t see any famous faces, but there’s a stellar line-up of actors lending their vocal talents including Kelly McDonald, Emma Thompson, Billy Connolly and Julie Walters.

The buzz: Pixar didn’t fair quite so well last summer with Cars 2 but we have a lot more reason to be hopeful with Brave.

The fantasy adventure, which takes place in Scotland, features Pixar’s first female protagonist in the form of flame-haired Merida, a young royal and skilled archer.

Fact: Merida was originally due to be voiced by Reese Witherspoon but she had to pull out due to scheduling issues. The character is instead voiced by Scottish actress Kelly McDonald, who has starred in No Country For Old Men and Boardwalk Empire.
