This is the time of year at Arne when a lot of our regular events start up again so here’s what is coming up over the next couple of weekends.
For a good chance to seeing some of the reptiles on the reserve, pop down this weekend (May 19 and 20) between noon and 4pm for free ‘show and tells’ every hour on the hour. One of our guides will be on hand to show you some of our resident lizards and snakes and tell you about their amazing lives.
Then on Saturday, May 26, we’re running one of our popular ‘creatures of the night’ walks when most other visitors have gone home and Arne turns into a very different reserve. Nightjars have just returned and have begun their weird chirring to mark their territories and find a mate. We’ll also be trying to track down some more of Arne’s nocturnal wildlife, from glow worms and moths to owls and bats and of course, the screeching sika deer. Who knows what else we’ll see!
Booking is essential but there are still plenty of spaces available. Follow the link for more information http://www.rspb.org.uk/events/details.aspx?id=tcm:9-308782 Finally, Sunday, May 27 is Spider Sunday. Arne is not only a special place for birds and reptiles but also has an amazing variety of invertebrates too.
From raft and wasp spiders to some of the more elusive inhabitants of the heath, our resident spider expert Tony Sheridan will take you on a journey into this fascinating world. Tony famously claims that there isn’t a question he can’t answer on spiders, so come along and test him out! See the link above for details.
