THE NHS will be carrying out free pulse checks and handing out information packs at Dorset shopping centres from today during Heart Rhythm Week.
Representatives from NHS Bournemouth and Poole and NHS Dorset will be at Poole Dolphin Centre from 8.30am to 5pm on Monday; Castlepoint in Bourne-mouth from 9am to 5pm on Tuesday; the Sovereign Centre in Boscombe from 9am to 5pm on Wednesday; Weymouth on Thursday and Dorchester on Friday.
The national campaign is organised by the Arrhythmia Alliance charity to increase awareness of the dangers of heart rhythm disorders such as atrial fibrillation, bradycardia and tachycardia.
Sara Leonard, network manager of Dorset Cardiac and Stroke Network, said: “We want to encourage people to check their pulse regularly as part of being healthy and we can show them how to do this.
“Not many people realise that having an irregular pulse can lead to serious health problems in the future such as having a stroke but also the sooner any abnormalities are detected, the faster they can be managed or treated.”
