‘VICAR scooting’ may not be an Olympic sport but it was taken just as seriously in Wimborne this week.

Six clergy raced six St John’s First School pupils around a slalom course on Minster Green to mark Christian Aid Week.

The children were the clear victors of the day, which made £75 for the cause.

Organiser Robert Pearce said: “The children enjoyed it and the clergy were good sports.

“One lady took a tumble early on but was absolutely fine.

“I think it was important just for them to be a bit silly and let off steam and have some good fun.”

The clergy team consisted of QE School’s Chaplain, two members from the Minster and others from the town’s Baptist, Elim and Methodist churches.

Funds raised will buy simple hand tools for people in Sierra Leone.
