BOURNEMOUTH Air Festival organisers are promising a dramatic World War Two re-enactment for the first time – and have confirmed the return of a big crowd pleaser.
The fifth festival, which takes place between August 30 and September 2, will see a Catalina, parachutist, P-51 and a Spitfire involved in the display.
The new attraction will be part of a line-up that is shaping up to be as spectacular as ever for flying fans.
Organisers have confirmed that the Avro Vulcan Cold War bomber will be back this year, as will the two GR4 Tornados.
One of last year’s most popular displays will be repeated when the Bournemouth-based Sea Vixen takes to the sky with the colourful Miss Demeanour Hunter Jet – Bournemouth fans will be the only ones to witness the pairing.
Past favourites have also been confirmed, including what will be an emotional return for the Red Arrows following Flt Lt Jon Egging’s death after a display last year.
Also back are the Breitling Wingwalkers, while the Night Air displays will take place on two evenings with the SWIP Team Twister Duo lighting up the sky.
Night Air will also feature two new additions – a parachute jump and a Spitfire sunset display set to music.
Welcomed back this year after missing the last event are the Royal Navy Black Cats Helicopter Display Team, while chopper fans can also enjoy the Chinook and Lynx.
Jon Weaver, air festival director, said: “After five years, the line-up is sure to be a crowd-pleaser with the Red Arrows headlining and some fantastic display teams and aircraft confirmed. With new and old favourites set to impress, we can’t wait for August 30.”
The festival will also see naval beach assaults, live music, fireworks, seafront trading, street entertainers, military participation and interactive military villages.
Organisers are set to announce more aircraft as the event gets nearer.
