EMILY’S parents spoke yesterday of their relief that justice has finally been served.
Mark Longley said the family were pleased with the sentence.
“We are extremely relieved this has come to an end. Now we can put this all behind us and we don’t have to walk up those steps to court again.”
Mark and Caroline said the Judge’s words to Turner summed up their feelings and were “word perfect”.
Mark, who described the trial as “hell”, added: “We are pleased he is not on the streets now. He’s an incredibly dangerous person and we are relieved he cannot do this to anyone again.”
Emily’s parents also urged other women to recognise the signs of being in an abusive relationship and get out.
Caroline said: “We will be able to move on now we know the facts of what happened to Emily and put together those missing pieces. Life has to move on.”
Mark added: “Justice has been done. We have done the best for Emily and got the best outcome for her.”
British-born Emily emigrated to New Zealand with her parents when she was nine.
She had returned to England to live with her grandparents in Southbourne and study a business diploma at Brockenhurst College.
Emily met Elliot in December 2010 but their relationship soon became abusive when Elliot suspected she was being unfaithful.
