DORSET got baking crazy this month, to raise more than £5,000 for local charity Diverse Abilities Plus.

Money is still pouring in from the Great Dorset Bake Sale, which took place over a week during May with fundraisers held throughout the county.

The idea behind the project follows on from the success of the charity’s recipe book, Scrumptious Home Baking, which includes recipes from chefs, celebrities and key supporters of the Diverse Abilities Plus, which is the only charity in Dorset supporting children and adults with disabilities throughout their life.

A number of local companies took part in the venture, holding their own bake sales, including Specsavers in Poole, Marketing Matters, Dorset Tea, Rock Recruitment, Honeybuns, Julia’s Kitchen and Fitness First Poole.

Sadie Smith, a volunteer fundraiser for the charity and a parent of a child with disabilities, was the driving force behind the initiative.

She said: “The Great Dorset Bake Sale was a great success. We raised a large amount of money, which will now help support more children and adults, with disabilities, and their families.

“The event also brought the community together and we thank everyone for getting involved. The standard of baking was extremely high and, out of the bake sales we visited, all the cakes tasted delicious.”
