A YOUNG woman was taken to hospital following a serious accident involving a tanker yesterday.
The 24-year-old Blandford motorist sustained a broken leg, arm and collar bone in the 10am smash at Blandford St Mary.
Firefighters and paramedics attended the scene at the entrance to a public bridleway on the A354, opposite the Down House Estate turn-off.
Paramedics gave the woman on-the-spot treatment before she was taken by ambulance to hospital.
She was driving a blue Mercedes C220 car when it was in collision with a small white Daf tanker.
Barry Kite, who lives at South Lodge on the Down House Estate, said: “I was out the back and I heard the crash happen, but I don’t know how it happened.”
Police established road closures on the A354 at Thorncombe to the south, and north at Blandford’s Tesco roundabout. These closures remained until after midday.
Mr Kite’s wife, Vicki, told the Daily Echo: “This is a dangerous junction. My father was badly hurt turning into the estate and I’ve had my car written off here as well. Something needs to be done. I hate turning in and I know everyone else on the estate hates it as well – sometimes you just feel like a sitting duck.”
The tanker driver, a 34-year-old Blandford man, was uninjured.
