A RARE number plate is being sold which has been traced to Bournemouth from the 1950s.
Duncan Macpherson, a car and motoring enthusiast, who lives all the way in Aberdeen, Scotland, got in touch with the Daily Echo after he purchased the number plate from a garage.
The garage took the YRU 951 number plate off an old Morris Minor when they sold the car and through the DVLA, Duncan found out it can be traced originally to Bournemouth from the 1950s.
Duncan said: “I bought it from a Glasgow Prestige Car Dealership, who had taken it in as a part exchange. They said it had been on a lovely old Morris Minor.
“They have now sold the car onto a vintage car enthusiast in Wales. However they decided to keep the rare private number plate.
“I bought it as I'm a bit of an enthusiastic motoring historian and the number plate is timeless, meaning it can go on to any modern car as a piece of local motoring history.
“Once I realised that it came from the Bournemouth area almost 70 years ago, I felt I should advertise it in that area to find a more natural home for it.”
It is being sold for £1,395, including DVLA transfer fee. For more information, contact Duncan on 01463 793111.
