A FERNDOWN woman is celebrating after winning a silver medal for her entry at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
Kay Willis entered the Young Florist of the Year category, which required her to create a floral chandelier to be hung above the table of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee meal.
The 20-year-old, who works at Fairmile Florist in Christchurch, used hula hoops and handbag rings amongst other objects to build the framework for the chandelier, which took her over two months to put together.
She said: “There were 16 of us who entered this category and we all interpreted the brief differently, which was good because mine didn’t look the same idea or shape as any others.”
Kay used a host of flowers in silver and white to provide the colour for the chandelier, many of which she had to specially order in.
She said: “When I found out that I had won, I burst into tears as I was so happy, as I was at the Chelsea Flower Show last year and I didn’t do so well, but to win a silver medal was even better.”
