IT’S often said that children don’t get out enough.
‘You never see them playing outdoors like I used to’, is the cry.
Blessed with the current hot spell, more youngsters are enjoying fun activities in the sunshine.
But it only takes one idiot to spoil things and see worried parents taking their offspring inside.
So our front page story today of a two-year-old girl being stabbed by a discarded hypodermic needle left by some dimwit in King’s Park, Boscombe, could have far-reaching consequences.
First, our thoughts and sympathies go to little Siann’s family and their dreadful wait for the result of blood tests. However, secondly, also to all those cautious parents who’ve decided with the milder climate that they should encourage their children to get out more, but may think again.
We can only hope that Siann’s tale is indeed a one-off and that our parks and beaches are fit for us to play in.
