A NEW voluntary regeneration group is set to improve a field in a north Dorset town.
Gillingham Town Centre Regeneration Action Group (RAG) will start work on ‘The Meadow’, which is behind the Red Lion pub.
The land was donated at a peppercorn rent by the owner, Blandford-based Hall and Woodhouse.
RAG secured more than £5,000 from various grants and plans to make the meadow a focus for the town.
Plans include a bridge to the high street, new trees and shrubs, and firmer ground so it can be used for fairs and festivals.
The meadow will then be rented out to community organisations for a modest fee, with income used to cover the costs of improvements and maintenance.
