DRIVERS are being warned that they could face jail if they are caught drink-driving on Dorset’s roads.
The warning coincides with the launch of the month-long summer drink and drug driving campaign.
There will be increased traffic patrols and roadside checks across the county with every driver involved in a collision breath tested.
Chief Inspector Matt Butler, head of Dorset Police traffic unit, said: “Drink and drug driving remains a significant contributory factor in road deaths; currently 25 per cent of fatalities in Dorset involve alcohol.
“Those who decide to risk the safety of others will be arrested and prosecuted. If a member of the public suspects someone is going to drive while under the influence of alcohol or drugs they should dial 999.”
He added: “If you are going out drinking take simple steps such as booking a taxi, having a designated driver or arranging overnight accommodation.”
