THE Jubilee party was still in full swing in Poole yesterday.
Poole Mayor Cllr Carol Evans had her work cut out officially opening street parties in Branksome Park, Canford Heath, Hamworthy, Lilliput and Old Town.
A 91-year-old man who remembers watching the Coronation on his first black and white television, led a Jubilee toast in Mayford Road, Branksome.
Grandad George Milne said: “We lived on a council estate in Wallisdown back then and didn’t have a street party. We’ve thoroughly enjoyed today.”
Partygoers in Twemlow Avenue, just off Poole Park, were spoiled with entertainments including an obstacle course, a treasure hunt, a Through the Keyhole style quiz and human chess.
Jonathan Cooper, of Orchard Avenue, said: “People have been very positive and enthusiastic.
“I wanted to organise a party because in 1,000 years of history there has only been one other Diamond Jubilee and I wanted to make sure I was part of this one.”
Around 300 people from Bingham Avenue, Alington Road, Mount Grace Drive and Minterne Road met up for a sit-down meal.
A raffle was held in aid of Lewis-Manning Hospice, nearby.
Neighbours from two roads held a Party in the Park at Beamish Park, on Canford Heath, with music, races and jellies for the children.
And at Isaacs Close, Talbot Village, on the border with Bournemouth, residents, friends and families had a cream tea and a firework display.
Jo Keeling said: “Most importantly we wanted to make memories for our children like the ones we have of the Silver Jubilee and the 1981 Royal Wedding.”
