THERE was no-let up of jubilee celebrations in Christchurch as residents continued their revelries on Monday.

Patriotic families and friends inspired by Royal Wedding parties last year, dusted off the bunting and super-sized their plans to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in style.

Many spoke of a feeling of true community while others said the celebrations made them proud to be British.

In Durlston Crescent, St Catherine’s Hill, families and friends kicked off their buffet lunch around 1pm before moving on to two quizzes – one with a royal twist – followed by a slow bike race for the children.

Sinead Cheeseborough from Durlston Crescent said: “It’s been a brilliant day. Everyone has done their bit and it’s been great. People were out sweeping the street on Sunday to give it a bit of a spruce up.”

In Bosley Way, Jumpers, the star of the show was a magnificent jubilee cake, won by one of the residents.

Resident Kirsty Shatwell said: “There wasn’t one person who didn’t put their name down.”

The celebrations made people in Scotts Hill Lane feel especially patriotic.

“It makes you proud to be British. We’ve all come together and celebrated this historic occasion. It will be lovely for the children to remember in years to come,” said Krissie Coppen.

And in Anne Close, Fairmile, youngsters limbered up for a tug-of-war while barbecues were lit and adults indulged in Pimms and strawberries.
