So, Chelsea have won not only the FA cup but also have won the Champions league.
My daughter has had her school prom.
Now I may see Chelsea win the cup again, but I will not see another final year prom.
It only seems like yesterday when she was born, and it doesn’t seem that far back that I left school.
Life is far to short just to sit about,so get out there and do something. One of the things for me is to get out on my bike...
Saturday
Wake fairly early and go for a ride around Poole. With a belly full of tea and sucking on a Riccola herb lozenge I head out to Hamworthy Park. The views across Poole Harbour are stunning: sun glinting off the water and you can even see Corfe Castle.
Then down to the Twin sails bridge and across to Sunseeker harbour - sorry Poole harbour. Need that lotto win!
Down the Quay to Fishermans Wharf and Baiter and onto Whitecliff then back through Poole park.
Negotiating Hunger Hill junction onto Holes Bay, head towards Upton House on the cycleway, through the woodland cycleway back to Blandford Road and back home.
Still in plenty of time to make my wife coffee in bed wake up my daughter and take the girls to dance school at Steppin out. Twelve miles in 45mins, feeling really good, having seen some stunning views and said hello to joggers, dog walkers and other cyclists. What a great way to start the day.
Go on give it a go……
Sunday Get up at seven, pile on the cycling gear, make a cuppa and a bowl of porridge (very good before you cycle). Load bike in car and drive out to Shroton where I meet my cycling mate Andy.
A gentle warm up through Shroton which nestles under Hambledon Hill and head up the A350 towards Iwerne Minster, onto a bridleway up through Baredon Wood to the Higher Shaftesbury Road.
Turning towards Tarrant Gunville we peel off onto Lime Pit coppice,a brilliant piece of single track that winds its way to Handcocks Bottom.
Single track is a mountain biker’s dream, a fast flowing bridleway where you skip over roots, riding over crests and dips with sweeping bends - it feels awesome.
Finally emerging with a big grin onto Gunville Down.
Down a fast sweeping track that dips and rises the smell of rape seed hitting you (smells of daffodils).
Ride into Pimperne and a climb up to Pimperne wood.
A fast descent down a gravel track to North Tarrant, another gravel track that leads to Chettle the peel of the church bells greeting us.
Onto the jubilee trail to Farnham which had a car boot sale with a stall selling bacon rolls, smelt as good as the rape seed.
Onto Dunspit Lane and a long winding section (stopping to let the horse rider through) to Stubhampton and back to Pimperne wood.
A climb past Pimperne Fox Warren and onto Smugglers lane, another fast flowing track with a steep technical at the end.
Past Steeplton House and back to Shroton for a well earned mug of tea and Danish slice.
26miles of fantastic mtb having climbed 2000ft achieved a top speed of 32mph. Two punctures but we always carry spare inner tubes which take minutes to change.
Put the bikes away, a quick change and then a rest and a pint of Shipwrecked (purbeck brewery) in the Cricketers Arms.
