A MAN has appeared in court charged with the murder of Spanish student Sergio Retamar Marquez.
Karl Addo, 29, of no fixed address, appeared before Bournemouth Magistrates Court accused of killing the 23-year-old in the Bournemouth flat they shared.
Wearing a dark grey polo shirt and grey tracksuit trousers, Addo spoke only to confirm his name and date of birth.
The court heard Addo is charged with murdering Sergio on July 17 at an address in Lansdowne Road in Bournemouth.
Addo was remanded in custody and will next appear at Winchester Crown Court tomorrow for a preliminary hearing.
Sergio was working as a waiter at the Britannia Hotel in Meyrick Road, Bournemouth, when he died.
A post mortem examination revealed that he had died from multiple stab wounds to the chest.
A full inquest will be held at a later date.
Sergio came from Coin near Malaga on the south coast of Spain and had previously studied at the former United World School of English before a biking accident saw him return home.
It is understood that he had only just moved back to Bournemouth to find work when he died.
Following his death the mayor of Coin, Fernando Fernandez, announced that there would be a period of mourning to allow residents to show their respects to him.
