August was a fun month for me, what with holidays and continued progress made on our priorities:
• After my recent meeting with a water sports training provider, it became apparent that the Live Unltd funding I had obtained to run taster dinghy sailing and kayak sessions wouldn’t be enough for the number of young people I was aiming to get involved. So, I have been busy raising the shortfall by car-washing and gardening for my neighbours! It has been hard work but I have now obtained the additional £100 I needed to pay for the event. The next step will be to devise the promotional campaign.
• To help promote the value of volunteering, I have been organising for a group of 10 young people to assist the Lifeboat charity, the RNLI , for two days at the Bournemouth Air Festival . We will be helping deliver simple sea safety messages to young children and building sand castles! With consent forms signed and uniforms ready, I can’t wait.
• I also attended Poole Youth Forum Annual Residential, where we planned next year’s programme of activities and debated how we can encourage wider participation in our future events.
