A SERIES of road shows to promote crime prevention is being held in Purbeck starting from today.

The road shows will include representatives from Dorset Police, Purbeck District Council and other agencies.

There will be a specially kitted-out car to raise awareness of vehicle crime and a shed to promote shed or outbuilding security. Members of local Safer Neighbourhood Teams will also be present to help security-mark bikes. The events will also be used to consult residents about the factors which might influence the fear of crime.

Steve Mackenzie, Chief Executive of Purbeck District Council, said “Purbeck is a very safe place and, thankfully, the level of crime here is very low. Nevertheless, there are still some people who think that the threat of crime is greater than it really is. We want to understand why people should feel afraid of crime when the level is so low and what influences their opinions.

“We hope that people will be able to pick up some useful tips at the road shows to make sure that crime figures remain low.”
