TYPHOON pilot Jamie Norris says Bournemouth offers him the ideal setting to show off the awesome capabilities of his jet.
The crowd-pleaser roared into town yesterday for the first time in four years and was a big highlight of the second day of the event.
Speaking to the Daily Echo ahead of yesterday’s display, Jamie said: “It’s my first time displaying in Bournemouth and it’s also the first time in four years we have had Typhoon here as well, due to different circumstances, so it’s really good to be the one to bring the jet back into the town.”
The Typhoon is due to display again today and tomorrow as the festival continues.
Jamie added: “Hopefully they will see, hear and feel the power and agility the jet’s got.
“During my routine you will see me putting the aircraft through its paces.
“I will arrive just short of 700mph – I quickly have the jet slowed to 100mph and I will show the crowds pretty much everything between that speed regime.
“I will be working the jet between plus nine and minus three G, so that’s the kind of forces that are acting on the aircraft and again to try to show the public the full envelope of the aircraft – albeit I cannot go as fast as the jet can go for fear of putting out all of the windows in the front of the pier, so it’s subsonic only.
“For a display site it’s second to none – being over the coast allows me the flexibility to get the aircraft as low as I can, so down to 100ft on arrival and 500ft for my aerobatics – and not be displaying over hazards or high ground, so coastal displays are my favourite and Bournemouth with the setting of the two piers is a perfect location to display in.”
