DRIVERS are facing delays in the Longham area this afternoon due to ongoing road works.

“Very slow” traffic is being reported on the A348 Ringwood Road both ways near the Longham URC Church.

Traffic updates service Inrix is reporting congestion to the Bear Cross Roundabout coming from parley Cross.

It says there is traffic on all approaches to the double roundabout due to four-way temporary traffic lights in operation.

Surfacing works have been taking place on Christchurch Road since May 11 and are due to be completed on Thursday, May 18.

Dorset Council is carrying out the carriageway maintenance and resurfacing works.

All vehicles are prohibited from proceeding along Christchurch Road, West Parley, between Ringwood Road and New Road.

Giving an update about the works on Tuesday, May 16, West Parley Parish Council said on its Facebook page: “The northbound closure has now been lifted, however temporary signals will be required on Wednesday 17th May to allow encapsulation works to be completed.

“SGN have been advised not to commence these works until after 9am given the commencement of the examination period in all the local schools.”

The Daily Echo has contacted SGN for a comment.
