A POOLE woman said she was “horrified and mortified” at the unkept site where her husbands’ ashes were spread in Poole Crematorium.
Jean Holman lost her husband Mike suddenly in 2016 and spread his ashes in the Summer Glade remembrance garden at the cemetery.
However, her most recent visit left the widow upset and angry.
Ms Holman said: “It would have been our silver wedding anniversary this week so I decided to visit his resting place.
"The entrance lawns are all very well kept but when I got down to the Summer Glade it just hit me. It was completely overgrown.
"Nettles and weeds were knee high and I had to climb over them just to get to my husband, it was so upsetting.
“You drive into the grounds and you’re greeted by well kept lawns, but as soon as you go down to where your loved ones are resting... it’s heart-breaking.
"I put Mike there in good faith and that hasn’t been repaid.”
Ms Holman enquired at the reception why the grounds were so overgrown and was told that they didn’t have a regular gardener.
She said staff told her that upkeep of the area was carried out as-and-when possible.
Ms Holman said: “They’ve had other complaints, so if someone’s complained before, why has nobody done anything? It has potential to be beautiful but it just feels like our loved ones are being left there to rot.
“It’s a question of respect, our loved ones can’t rest in those conditions and, worse still, we can’t get to them.”
The crematorium and its grounds are owned and operated by BCP Council.
