MUCH-LOVED husband, father, uncle and grandfather Ken Pizey passed away on June 21 at the age of 88.

Born in Radlett, Hertfordshire, in 1925 Ken’s family moved to Chingford when he was two and he was educated at Forest School boarding school.

During the Second World War Ken went to Wireless College before joining the Merchant Navy at the age of 17, serving on the Atlantic Convoys.

After a serious illness, Ken spent five months recovering in Alexandria hospital before rejoining service, this time with an American hospital ship helping casualties at Omaha Beach.

His last active service was with the British Army in Germany during the final year of the war effort.

In 1947 Ken joined the Ordnance Survey and four years later he joined the Lilliput Yacht Station which his father owned. When the station became Ken’s it was one of his main passions.

In 1953 Ken married Joan and the couple were blessed with the birth of their son Conrad in 1961. Another turning point in Ken’s life came when he met Pamela. They married in 1990 and were together for 30 years.

The couple moved to Blake Hill Crescent, Poole, in 1994 where Ken proudly displayed his collection of toy soldiers. However, his main interest was sailing and he was the Poole Harbour correspondent for Yachting Monthly.

Ken enjoyed being on the water so much that his holidays were spent visiting the Isle of Wight and travelling around Scotland, onboard the Hebridean Princess.

In later life he became a proud uncle to his sister Joan’s children and a very proud grandfather to Alicia, Natasha and Bryony.

Ken’s funeral service was held at Poole Crematorium on July 3.
