PETER David Adams, known as Andy, was a former engineer, Royal Marine Reservist, and ballroom dancer who died at the aged of 75.

He was born in Bournemouth in 1936 and went to Boscombe Infants followed by Ashley Road Secondary Modern.

After leaving school he served an apprenticeship as a panel beater in Bournemouth Imperial Motors.

He enjoyed sport, motor cycling and in particular ballroom dancing, where he gained many awards.

He joined the Royal Marine Reserves and served for 15 years and reached the rank of sergeant.

During his service he acquired the nickname ‘Andy’ because there were so many ‘Peters’ in his squad.

Whilst stationed in Chatham, on his way back from Church one evening, he met a glamorous lady returning from playing tennis.

Andy and Dorries went on to enjoy more than 50 years of marriage and they had two children.

In 1966 he moved to High Wycombe and a job in London, working for Royal Insurance as a staff engineer and later for Eagle Star relocating back to the West Country and East Coker until he retired in 1995.

He became president of the Institute of Automotive Engineer Assessors in 1996.

His many interests included being a cub scout leader, a member of the wine circle, a parish councillor, and narrow boating.

The funeral service took place at St Michael and All Angels in Yeovil and was organised by Wakely Brothers.
