A POOLE dad whose “amazing” fight against adversity won him admirers nationwide has died.

Lee Wylde, who loved surfing, summer and the great outdoors, was first diagnosed with leukaemia 16 years ago, aged 22.

But he amazed medics when he not only appeared to recover from the disease, but also fathered a child with the love of his life Nancy.

Medical experts had warned Essex-born Lee that aggressive chemotherapy would leave him sterile, but, nonetheless, baby Izaak – described as Lee and Nancy’s miracle – was born.

Their ‘miracle child’, who had confounded the experts, made headlines across the country.

However, in 2007 Lee received another blow and underwent major heart surgery – an operation that, once again, left him fighting for life. But, true to form, once again, he refused to give up.

His family recalled: “Lee’s fight for life and amazing humour never left him during this time and a big part of this was his love for Izaak and to ensure he was there for him and to be a great dad.

“There is no doubt he succeeded in doing that.”

Sadly, health complications persisted and in February this year, Lee was admitted to hospital for kidney dialysis.

This was unsuccessful and Lee was transferred to Branksome Park Care Centre for the final two-and-a-half weeks of his life.

Paying tribute, his family said: “During his long battle with multiple illnesses Lee never lost his great sense of humour or his fighting spirit; he put others first.

“The family and friends wish to thank all the hospital staff involved with Lee’s care over the many years and, in particular, Dr Andrew Bell of Poole Hospital for all his efforts, genuine concern and friendship to Lee.”

His funeral was held at Poole Crematorium on Monday, with more than 150 in attendance, and was followed by a wake at the Rising Sun afterwards.
