Fans of the BBC's Killing Eve are in for a treat as the new season drops on Monday, April 13.
The award-winning spy-thriller and dark comedy is based on the novel series, Villanelle by Luke Jennings and executive produced by Fleabag’s Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
The show tells the story of two fiercely intelligent women who are obsessed with each other and go head-to-head in a game of cat and mouse.
Season two ended quite literally with a bang, leaving fans desperate to see what lies in store for the next series. With a new writer, fresh faces and questions that need answering, here’s what you need to know about the third season of Killing Eve.
Who is in the cast of season 3?
Reprising her role as assassin Villanelle is Jodie Comer (Doctor Foster, My Mad Fat Diary). Also returning as her counterpart in the cat and mouse game, Sandra Oh (Grey’s Anatomy, American Crime) will star again as ex-MI6 officer, Eve Polastri.
Also confirmed to return are Fiona Shaw (Fleabag, Mrs Wilson) as Carolyn Martins, Kim Bodnia (Hostages, Klassen) as Konstantin, Owen McDonnell (Woman on the Verge, Paula) as Niko Polastri and Sean Delaney (Midsomer Murders) as Kenny Stowton.
A whole host of new faces is also joining the cast for season three, including:
- Dame Harriet Walter (Belgravia, Succession)
- Danny Sapini (MotherFatherSon, Harlots)
- Gemma Whelan (Gentleman Jack, Game of Thrones)
- Camille Cottin (Call My Agent!, Mouche)
- Steve Pemberton (Inside No. 9, Death in Paradise)
- Raj Bajaj (A Christmas Prince: The Royal Wedding)
- Turlough Convery (Poldark, Sanditon)
- Pedja Bjelac (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Circus Bukowsky)
- Evgenia Dodina (Your Honor, A Touch Away)
There has not been any official word about whether Edward Bluemel (Traitors, Sex Education) will be returning as Hugo, which could inform fans about the fate of the character following the wound to his stomach in season 2.
When will Killing Eve season 3 be released?
Unlike previous seasons of Killing Eve, which was released in the US ahead of the UK, season three will drop in the UK and the US at the same time.
In the UK, you’ll be able to watch Killing Eve season three on BBC iPlayer on Monday, April 13, and it will be available to stream from 6am each Monday.
The show will be aired on BBC One just under a week later, with the first episode kicking off on Sunday, April 19 at 9pm, and new episodes airing each Sunday afterwards at 9pm.
What will happen in season 3?
In the official trailer for season 3 from the BBC, it opens up with a voiceover from Villanelle saying: “When I think about my ex today, I realise I am so much happier now she’s dead.”
However, it’s revealed that Eve is actually still alive after being shot by Villanelle amongst Roman ruins - a fact that Villanelle doesn’t seem to know.
The trailer brings up questions of its own - will Villanelle find out Eve is still alive? How will their relationship be impacted by the fact that Villanelle tried to Eve?
The text in the trailer reads: “Obsession. Never. Dies.”
There are also question marks over Villanelle’s past, especially after it was revealed that not all of her relatives were dead as she thought.
Will Hugo survive after being left by Eve, bleeding to death in the hotel - and will he ever forgive her if he does live?
The BBC’s teaser says: “The third series continues the compelling cat and mouse story of two women with brutal pasts now trying desperately to live their lives without the other.
“For Villanelle (Jodie Comer), the assassin without a job, Eve (Sandra Oh) is dead. As for Eve, the ex-MI6 operative is hiding in plain sight, hoping that Villanelle will never find her.
“All seems fine until a shocking death sets them on a collision course yet again. The journey back to each other will cost both them friends, family, and allegiances. And perhaps a share of their souls.”
Will there be a season 4?
Good news for Killing Eve fans - the show was renewed for a fourth season before season three has even made it to our screens.
Laura Neal (Sex Education, Turn Up Charlie) is set as the head writer for season four of the BBC thriller.
Phoebe Waller-Bridge was the season one lead writer, and continues to be an executive producer.
Season two was headed by Emerald Fennell (Promising Young Women, Drifters) and the current lead writer for season three is Suzanne Heathcote (Fear the Walking Dead).
