Liz Truss was announced as Prime Minister today after beating Rishi Sunak in the Conservative Party leadership contest, but another woman with a similar name received many messages on Twitter regarding this event, mistaking her for the new PM.
This afternoon Liz Trussell, who has the Twitter handle @Liztruss, received many messages either congratulating or criticising the winner of the Tory leadership contest.
However, they were obviously not aware of the 'real' Liz Truss's Twitter handle which is actually @TrussLiz.
Liz Truss on plans to tackle soaring energy bills as PM
Those who made the mistake included former Green Party leader Caroline Lucas among several others, and Liz Trussell often had a witty comment to hand to those who had made the error.
Sorry I was in Nandos 🤷🏻♀️

One Twitter user wrote: "@liztruss demonstrates total absence of class by blanking Sunak when her win is announced".
Trussell replied to this saying "Sorry I was in Nandos" which then led to the original poster apologising for the mix-up.
Caroline Lucas also apologised for her mistake, later tweeting: "Apologies, my previous tweet about #ToryLeadership should have been directed to @TrussLiz - not Liz Trussell who tweets at @LizTruss - tho frankly she’d probably make a better job of it".

Trussell replied: "I’m in! Vegas for everybody!!!"
Amongst plenty of tweets mistakenly congratulating her Trussell said she was "gonna be busy" and that her and "Queen Liz would deffo be besties" when they would meet up with the monarch to officially appoint her.
Another person tweeted about the mix-up of Twitter handles comparing Trussell to John Lewis, whose @JohnLewis handle often is mistakenly used to tag the department store.
They wrote: "Shout out to @liztruss, who is having their very own @JohnLewis moment. Also, likely would be a better PM than @trussliz, who couldn’t even secure a sensible Twitter handle."
Trussell replied: "Think this might be my fave tweet of the day."
