The 10 hardest centres to pass your driving test at have been revealed in research from the learner-driver insurer Veygo.

They analysed data from the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) for the period of 2021/22 to find this out.

Centres in Scotland and the North of England were found to have some of the higher pass rates, which compared quite drastically to busier area like London and Birmingham.

Nationally the average pass rate is currently 48.9% as the DVSA works to get through the backlog caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

James Armstrong, CEO of Veygo said: “There are dramatic differences in pass rates across areas of the UK. Before booking your driving test we recommend that students check the pass rates of their local test centres to give an indication of success.

"Some areas are naturally more difficult for taking your driving test due to the roads being busier or more difficult obstacles to navigate, such as roundabouts. There are various ways to increase your chances of passing, including practicing outside of lessons; our research revealed that of those who did this, 65% passed first time."

1. Erith, London - 28.4% pass rate

2. Belvedere, London - 31.1% pass rate

3. Speke, Liverpool - 33.1% pass rate

4. Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham - 35.1% pass rate

5. Rochdale - 35.8% pass rate

In comparison the 10 best centres to try and pass your driving test at were all in Scotland.

Mallaig in Lochaber has the best pass rate at 87.1%, with Ballater in Aberdeenshire in second at 84.8% and Lochgilphead in third at 80.5%.
