The Prince of Wales has sent a message to the Lionesses where he apologised for not being in Australia to watch England as they take on Spain in the Women's World Cup final.

He shared a video to social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, while sat next to his daughter Charlotte.

Prince William has been following the Lionesses’ World Cup journey and congratulated them on their win against Australia on Wednesday that secured their spot in the final.

Wishing them luck for the final, William said: “Lionesses I want to send you a huge good luck for tomorrow, we’re sorry we can’t be there in person but we’re so proud of everything you’ve achieved and the millions you’ve inspired here and around the world.

“So go out there tomorrow and really enjoy yourselves.”

Charlotte, who is sat next to him holding a football and grinning, added: “Good luck Lionesses.”

England to play in World Cup final on Sunday

England will take on Spain in the Women’s World Cup final on Sunday.

The Lionesses playing in a World Cup final means a senior England side could be crowned world champions for the first time since the men’s team triumphed in 1966.

Today’s game is the first time either a men’s or women’s England team has played in a World Cup final since Bobby Moore lifted the trophy at Wembley 57 years ago.
